Effects of moderate rotation on stellar pulsation I. Third order perturbation formalism
نویسنده
چکیده
Interpretation of the available ground-based and forthcoming space observations of multiperiodic variable stars require accurate computations of oscillation frequencies. Typical rotational equatorial velocities of upper main sequence stars range between 50 and 200 km/s and the effect of rotation on the oscillation frequencies of these stars must be included. The rotation can still be considered as a perturbation, provided the expansion used in the perturbation method is carried out far enough to provide frequencies accurate enough to match that of the observations. For that purpose, we develop here a perturbation formalism for adiabatic oscillations of moderately rotating stars which is consistently valid up to third order in the rotation rate. The formalism includes the case of near-degeneracy i.e. when the frequencies of two (or three) oscillation modes happen to be close to each other. This occurs systematically for l = 0 and l = 2 p-modes. Near-degeneracy leads to spherical harmonic mixing and affects frequencies. Consequences for mode identification are discussed.

Third Order Effect of Rotation on Stellar Oscillations of a β-Cephei Star
Here the effect of rotation up to third order in the angular velocity of a star on the p, f and g modes is investigated. To do this, the third-order perturbation formalism presented by Soufi et al. (1998) and revised by Karami (2008), was used. I quantify by numerical calculations the effect of rotation on the oscillation frequencies of a uniformly rotating βCephei star with 12 M⊙. For an equat...
متن کاملThird order effect of rotation on stellar oscillations of a B star
The present paper aims at investigating the effect of rotation up to third order in the angular velocity of a star on p and g modes, based on the formalism developed by Soufi et al. (1998). Our ultimate goal is the study of oscillations of β Cephei stars which are often rapidly rotating stars. Our study shows that the third-order perturbation formalism presented by Soufi et al. (1998) must be 2...
متن کاملInterior rotation of a sample of γ Doradus stars from ensemble modelling of their gravity-mode period spacings
Context. Gamma Doradus stars (hereafter γDor stars) are known to exhibit gravityand/or gravito-intertial modes that probe the inner stellar region near the convective core boundary. The non-equidistant spacing of the pulsation periods is an observational signature of the stellar evolutions and current internal structure and is heavily influenced by rotation. Aims. We aim to constrain the near-c...
متن کاملEffects of Uniform and Differential Rotation on Stellar Pulsations
We have investigated the effects of uniform rotation and a specific model for differential rotation on the pulsation frequencies of 10 M⊙ stellar models. Uniform rotation decreases the frequencies for all modes. Differential rotation does not appear to have a significant effect on the frequencies, except for the most extreme differentially rotating models. In all cases, the large and small sepa...
متن کاملLINEAR PULSATION CHARACTERISTICS OF MIRA VARIABLE STARS
The linear adiabatic pulsation-periods of Mira variable stars have been derived. Approximately 2701[1]models were calculated for M = 0.7 MΘ to 2 MΘ stars with radii from 180 RΘ to 340 RΘ and luminosities from 2800 LΘ to 10,000 LΘ. The chemical composition of all models is (X,Z) = (0.7,0.02). From the result of this study, linear relations on Luminosity-Period-Mass relationship and luminosity-pe...
